“(Reuters) – U.S. long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad decided on Sunday (9-25-2011) to abandon her third attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida after being stung overnight in the face and eyes by jellyfish.”
After having covered approximately 77 of the 103 miles from Cuba to Florida, 62 year old Diana Nyad reported that abandoning her third attempt to complete her marathon swim was a “bitter pill to swallow.” Diana’s body became swollen after multiple stings from Portuguese Man-of-War jelly fish and her medical team advised her that further stings could result in long term damage or even death.
I am 62 years old and I am fascinated at Diana’s story. At a time when so many my age (and some even younger) have quit, she is still saying “give me my mountain.” Diana is a woman who is refusing to die with her song still in her. It was Norman Cousins who said “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while
we yet live.” After exiting the water, it is reported that Diana said “curse those damn jelly fish.” Wow! talk about an indomitable spirit. Right now I’m thinking of that movie “Finding Nemo” and Dory the little blue fish with the short memory
Once we have established our goals our hopes and our dreams, let’s keep them in sight and never let go of them. And let’s do like “Dory” and sing…”just keep swimming swimming swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming…” I will not be surprised to hear of another attempt by Diana to swim those 107 miles, People like her don’t quit they are like “Nike” they Just Do It.
May the rest of your life be the best of your life and above all…
Have A Great Day!
